The Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea (IMELS) cooperates with scientific and technical Institutions to develop projects and initiatives in the sustainable agriculture sector. An intensive and unsustainable agriculture associated to a high rate of fertilizers and pesticides use provokes loss of biodiversity, groundwater aquifers contamination and soil erosion. In order to reverse these trends, demonstration projects and feasibility studies aimed at transferring innovative environmental friendly technologies and products to reduce the use of pesticides and fertilisers in agriculture, to prevent soil erosion and increase food quality and safety have been implemented. Moreover, capacity building and training activities are addressed to selected agricultural advisory centres and farmers in order to strengthen sustainable agriculture practices”.
